An Appreciation
Swami Kriyanandaji's
book on the Essence of the Bhagavad Gita as explained by his Guru,
Sri Paramahamsa Yogananda is not just another ordinary explanation
of this immortal scripture.
It stands on par with the grand commentaries of this classic as
given by the three great masters, Shankaracharya, Madhvacharya and
Ramanujacharya.
Swami Kriyanandaji
is one of the last surviving disciples of the great Master- Paramahamsa
Yogananda. These explanations were given to him a long time ago
but the strange thing is that they have surfaced from the depths
of his memory at this crucial time when the world needs it.
This voluminous
book of over six hundred pages contains not just the essence of
the Bhagavad Gita but also the essence of Hinduism or the
Sanatana Dharma.
There are hundreds
of commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita but this one is unique. First
of all it gives the allegorical meaning of all the characters in
the Mahabharata as well as the meaning of the various allegories
used by the Lord. These explanations have also been combined with
the great teaching of Kriya Yoga as given by his Master.
Swamiji says
that it took him only three months to complete this book but a serious
reader would need three years to completely absorb this teaching
and assimilate it into his or her own personality.
We can only
be grateful to Swamiji for having given this jewel of Wisdom and
Discrimination to us. He has written many books but this is possibly
the "chudamani" or crest jewel of his life.
May he be inspired to write many such books and enable us to rise
above the mundane level of sensual living to the glories of the
Life Divine.
